Today this timeless village, set in a lush valley with some vineyards nearby, forms a memorial to Turkish-Greek peace and cooperation. In the evening, when the ruined village’s churches are spotlit, Kayaköy is truly surreal.

Saklıkent George (72km)
Some 12km after the turn-off to Tlos heading south, this spectacular gorge is really just a fissure in the Akdağlar, the mountains towering to the northeast. Some 18km long, and up to 200m high, the gorge is too narrow in places for even sunlight to squeeze through. Luckily you can, but prepare yourself for some very cold water year-round – even in summer.
You approach the gorge along a wooden boardwalk towering above the river. On wooden platforms suspended above the water, you can relax, drink tea and eat fresh trout while watching other tourists slip and slide their way across the river, hanging onto a rope and then dropping into the gorge proper. Good footwear is essential, though plastic shoes and helmets can be rented (₺5).
